Spanish White Village in Malaga

Rincon de la Victoria (Victory Corner)

Rincon de la Victoria lies on the coast 10 kilometres to the east of Malaga. A fishing village up to twenty years ago, its proximity to Malaga has changed it into an important centre for both residential and seasonal tourism. The municipality covers an area of 30 square kilometres and offers something for everybody - lots of hotels, restaurants and bars, ten kilometres of coastline for water sports or simply lying in the sun, an excellent golf course and other sporting facilities. It is said that the best anchovies on all the coast are caught here.

Velez-Malaga

Velez-Malaga, known locally just as Velez, is situated 1 kilometre inland from Torre del Mar and 26 kilometres to the east of Malaga. The town lies in the wide valley of the River Velez from where its main resources are found. These are agricultural products of vines, olives, sugar cane and vegetable and salad crops. Good quality olive oils and wine are produced here. There are also many garden nurseries growing and selling a wide range of plants, trees and seeds. Velez-Malaga is a working town with varied interesting architecture and old palaces. The origins go back to the Phoenicians and the Carthaginians, from which civilisations a great many important remains have been discovered.

Torre del Mar

One of the main tourist resorts 28 kilometres to the east of Malaga. It has wide sandy beaches, flanked by a long beachfront promenade, which gives excellent views along the coastline and to the hills and mountains behind. Torre del Mar has a lot of atmosphere and local flavour with numerous shops, restaurants and bars. There is a summer night market open until 3 am. In July and August the town is a holiday venue for predominantly Spanish tourists.

Torrox Pueblo

Nestling in the mountains of Axarquia, just 10 minutes from the beaches of the Costa del Sol, the traditional Andalucian white village of Torrox.

Nerja

50 kilometres from Malaga, on the eastern most tip of the Costa del Sol, where the mountains meet the sea is the town of Nerja. Once a fishing village, it is now a thriving resort but has managed to retain much of its Andalucian character, particularly in the old quarter with its narrow, winding cobbled streets and whitewashed houses.

At the heart of the town is the Balcon de Europa (Balcony of Europe), a palm tree lined promenade built along the edge of a cliff and out to sea with panoramic views of the Mediterranean and Nerja's nine sandy beaches which stretch to over 16 kilometres in total.

Nerja's most spectacular attraction is its caves, located just 3 kilometres from the centre of town. The Cueva De Nerja (Caves of Nerja) are regarded as one of the most historic monuments of the world, with archeological remains dating back to the Paleolithic Age (about 20,000 years ago). One of the enormous natural caverns has been transformed into a concert hall where many performances are staged.

In June there is a Festival Of Music and Dance held in the caves which provide a magical backdrop to ballet, classical music and singing. Top names perform and the seating is limited so we recommend enquiring about tickets well in advance.
